Sweater // Francesca's Collections
T-Shirt // Hollister {no regrets}
Jeggings // Uniqlo
Booties // Target, my love.
It's taken me twenty and a half years, but friends, I've finally figured it out.
I figured out the difference between the real world and the blog world,
and I'm not even referring to the fact that one is two-dimensional while the other is three.
{And okay, I guess blog world is not twenty years old, so I can cut myself some slack.}
No, here's the actual fundamental difference:
In the real world, when you've newly acquired a super cute and snuggly sweater with chic ikat and cool drapery and a neutral palette like you've wanted for forever, you style it with your new Target booties, grab a couple of textbooks and some friends and head to the coffee shop in an effort to show the hipsters your "effortlessly" fashionable outfit. You prance around in it, fling your hair this way and that (but subtly, duh), and then you go home. Your roommate is driving back from LA and is three hours away, and you're really tired and just want to shower and change into pajamas, but you wait out those three hours because by golly, the roommate needs to see this outfit and she needs to compliment me. And then because you decide not enough people saw the outfit, you wear it again the next day.
In blog world, you don't have to wear it twice in two days! All you have to do is pose! click! upload! and it's documented forever and now everyone can see. So you sidle up to your roommate who's lounging on the couch, and you say very, very sweetly - "hear me out. You're not going to like this, but I have a compromise. If you go outside with me right now and take two pictures of me in this outfit, I'll come back and watch an episode of Castle with you." Roommate rolls her eyes, but accepts, and unknowingly falls into your trap - you stay out there for forty minutes taking way more than two photos. But hey, Castle happened, quickly proceeded by Chinese takeout and New Girl. So we're all winners here.

ReplyDeleteHi from Totally Posted Tuesday! And OMG this is perfect. I love it. The differences between the real world and the blog world always crack me up!
ReplyDeletehaha, well you are so very right! the blog world and the real world are different. I feel like bloggers try to sugar coat their lives, you know? only snapping pics and talking about all of the good things....sigh.

Very true...most people in the "real world" don't even really care!! I'm so glad you convinced your rookie to take these pics of you!!
ReplyDeleteAhh it all makes sense now :) Thanks for enlightening the rest of us! I've never watched Castle but based on Chinese take-out and New Girl alone, I'd say it was more than a fair compromise!
ReplyDeleteI always love reading your blog! You tell stories and I love it! This post cracked me up. It's so true. BTW, I LOVE Castle!! Should I admit that?? Hmm... Your roomie understands! :-)

I totally wear outfits two days in a row. It's one of those "I wore this to work yesterday, but you, my friends, were not there yesterday." Double, Wammy.

I knew you had the secrets to life all figured out.
ReplyDeleteyou look so so so gorgy!!! i love love your aztec sweater! you look so bundled up and adorable in it! :)
ReplyDeleteHILARIOUS!! Loved this. But I thought the difference between the blog world and the real world was I don't post pictures of the days my place is a mess or I'm in yoga pants? :)
ReplyDeleteSee, the great thing about blog world is that you automatically have all of these friends to celebrate the fact of new clothes with you! My husband never seems nearly as excited as my blog readers. :P
ReplyDeleteLove that sweater and those booties! You are too cute!
ReplyDeleteHaha this is so damn true! I put an outfit on once, took a picture for ten minutes, and bam was right back in pajamas. Yet SO many more people saw it than they would have if I just wore it out for the day. Plus you look adorable as ever, especially on that bench all snuggled up!
ReplyDeletelove that sweater, very cute!! xo

haha that is actually true. Something so weird and crazy about being to document something for loads of people to see online while someone may never have actually seen it in real life!

Too funny; two photos my ass! haha! I actually feel blogging has made me rather self conscious about having my photo taken. I am typically the one behind the camera, so it's awkward for me to ask others to take shots of me doing things for the blog. Maybe I'll get more used to it...but I love how comfortable you look in front of the camera!
ReplyDeleteHaha it's so true! I definitely do that whole "wear the same outfit twice" thing if no one important saw me wear it the day before!
ReplyDeleteWell it IS a beautiful jumper!
